You are, however, missing a key element: Those people who were teens in the '80's--and therefore most likely to have been wowwed by the decade-- are in their 50's now and, in many places but, in particular, hollywood and silicon valley, are largely in charge or otherwise occupy positions of power.

So, while you may be correct that the '80's was a creative decade, the present time isn't and may be just a recycling of all that...
