I'm not making a defense of the Catholic Church I no longer attend, so you need not try to school me on what is, or is not, a sin, nor am I attacking you, per se.
You did state that the purported 'unusual' sexual practices will 'set you free.' But I know people who considered themselves free absent any experimentation with these sexual practices... maybe they just weren't truly free. Maybe you are right and they "just adopted it as [their] normal". But I also know people who made the attempt to 'be free' in some cases with 'unusual' sexual practices and only got misery--and no normal--in return. Is that what you mean by 'freedom?'
Neither am I generalizing. I'm, in fact, particularizing: my grandparents and their siblings, without exception neither divorced or 'fooled around.' This is well over twenty couples. (Each of my four grandparents had many siblings, at least seven each, in one case more--They were pre-Vatican II Catholics.) I did no say they were 'happy.' And I CERTAINLY DID NOT say they were 'happy BECAUSE of the repression.' (Wait, what did YOU just say about what I said?!) If anything I said they may have been happy DESPITE the repression. I said the bulk of them would have told me they were happy. I just know they all remained married and seemed happily so.
Of the greater number of couples in my parents generation, those descended directly from the previous generation, ALL married and then divorced. Every last one of them. These were the people directly confronted with the notion that they were 'repressed,' and needed to be 'set free.' I certainly know that they were not happy. There was a great deal of pain and misery, in fact. Is that what you meant by freedom?
Whatever else it is you think I'm saying about each generation sui generis, there remains a clear and a pretty stunning difference between the generations in my family. That's not nothing, and dismissing it with 'people should be free to exercise their free will' (whatever it is you think you mean by that) suggests an unwillingness to confront the range of consequences...
