Joe Manchin, Turducken.
Dear Senator Joe, Victorian England wants their pietist class structure back, the clergy (old testament and new) want you to know that revanchism is their thing, get your own, and the GOP wants you to join them or to stop stealing their material.
Here’s a thought, Senator Joe Manchin — and I’m just spitballing here — why don’t we… I dunno… maybe… Just maybe…
…We wait for people to do something wrong before we punish them for it?
Whattya think? Novel idea, huh? (‘Novel’ in this context, Joe, means ‘new’ and not ‘a book without pictures.’)
Let’s bring morality, and legislation with it, into the twenty-first century…
Do you think we could, at the least, give it the old college try?
A priori restrictions on welfare are a dangerous game, Senator Joe. Invoking them does two, very bad things: It takes responsibility for the recipients even as it denies them the opportunity to be good. (‘Responsibly’ in this context, Joe, means ‘moral care and consideration’ and not ‘That which summons TV cameras.’)
