One of the worst parts of the Tim Burton version of 2005 was the attempt to add 'back-story' in the form of a domineering dentist father creating a wayward son. It was cringe-worthy in the extreme, not just because of the ham-handed way in which it was written AND PERFORMED, but by its very inception: the idea was bad to begin with and no good can come of trying to make a bad idea into anything approaching a good movie. 'Wonka, the early years' is destined to fail in exactly this manner.
Take any and all monies dedicated to this incipient trainwreck and give half to Tig Notaro to make whatever movie she wants, and simply burn the other half in a bonfire dedicated to pagan deities and we'll all be better off.
