There is one problem with what you write — Frodo only succumbed to the ring on Mount Doom because of the length of time he had borne it during the journey there; it wore on him more and more as the journey progressed, eroding his will, until when he reached Mount Doom he could fight its power no longer.

’Twas not the length of the journey that energized the ring but the proximity to the mountain…

So which is worse: a slow, gradual, weighing of the ring wearing Frodo down overt the year or so of the quest? Or a 12 hour ride in which the full force of the ring hits him all at once?
