many conservatives have told me they believe leftists want a world where everyone chooses to be charitable. The reality is we want a world without charity.

Who is this ‘we’? Speak for your self, please.

I’m a leftist. The only way I want world without charity is a world not in need of charity. This is not an indictment of charity, but of the underlying need. But I would not — mangling Lincolns’ second inaugural — ban charity for any, in sight of the need, for the sake of malice towards some… poking Jeff Bezos in the eye (however much fun that sounds) is not a moral case against philanthropy.

The best and most philanthropic thing that Jeff Bezos can do is to pay a large tax on the billions in his ‘possession,’ and let government — with charity for all and with malice towards none — deal with the problems of society.
