You are correct when you note that calling Joe Biden a 'socialist' is merely making a distinction of values. But you don't go far enough. You don't note where, in fact, Joe Biden betrayed the values of old white, hetero, males...

Joe Biden is not the candidate of the status quo: he is radical in two respects; he consciously and deliberately played second fiddle to a Black man--this alone is betrayal of the status quo; and he then consciously and deliberately elevated a Black women to the highest position any Black women has ever held. The first act is the betrayal and the second is ratification of the betrayal. Both of which are things that have earned my vote and are deserving of my respect, even if he takes office in Jan and does nothing else of note.

Also, note that George Orwell was, himself, a socialist and fought in Spain and would go on to rail against Stalinist Russian because he was fighting, not against socialism, but against the corruption of socialism, which is a distinction I think you elide.

There is a long history, in fact, in this country of a blend of socialism and christianity that a vast majority of white Americans have supported...

... until it was proposed that those things be extended to Black Americans. That's the line that many just won't cross.

Yes, it really is that simple.
